To support you in your new course with Melvic College Australia, we will provide the following:
- CHC33021 learning and assessment suite which includes:

- Learner Guides
- Assessment Workbooks
- Templates for Projects and other activities;
- Simulated resources to provide students with simulated assessment pathways (not applicable to all assessment tasks especially those to be done during vocation placement)
- Additional course readings and resources recommended by trainers.
Vocational placement providers must allow access to:
- Facilities, equipment and resources in the aged care and disability support workplace, including:
- Patient room facilities
- Shower and toilet facilities
- Mealtime facilities
- Carpark facilities
- Car to simulate transferring a person in and out of car
- Manikins appropriate for individual support simulations
- Clothes for the manikin for dressing and undressing
- Eating and drinking tableware
- Food and drink for the simulation
- Oral hygiene equipment, e.g., toothbrush, toothpaste
- Slide sheets, hoists, slings and lifters
- Bed bathing equipment
- Shaving equipment, e.g., razor, shaving cream
- Soap and towels
- Pre-packaged medication
- Other equipment and resources outlined in individualised plans
- Workplace documentation, including:
- Organisational policies and procedures
- Individualised plans, health management plans, personal healthcare checklists, and personal healthcare diaries, where relevant to the client’s needs
- Risk assessment tools
- Reporting forms and other documentation
- Vocational workplace supervisor(s) to supervise and confirm completion of the required tasks included in the Skills Workbook. The workplace supervisor must
- Have adequate knowledge and understanding of the provision of aged care
- Have the ability to effectively supervise and manage aged care services
- Have the necessary experience and qualification(s) in the area of individual support specialising in aged care (e.g., you have the relevant VET qualification/s, Certificate III in Individual Support Specialising in Aged Care and Disability, or higher)
- At least two (2) colleagues
- At least two (2) people to participate in simulations and scenarios that involve provision of support services according to an individualised plan
- Individual support clients, including:
- Two (2) clients living with dementia, their families and/or carers
- Two (2) clients from two (2) different cultural backgrounds, each with a specific cultural need
- Two (2) clients receiving palliative care
- Two (2) clients with disability
- Clients’ families and/or carers
- Organisational policies, protocols and procedures including but not limited to:
- Work health and safety
- Safe work practices
- Manual handling
- Infection control
- Workplace equipment and resources normally used by care workers (i.e., as needed: patient hoists, standing lifter, wheelchair, other client assistive devices and mobility aids, and PPE)
- Workplace to conduct a work health and safety inspection
- Resources for infection prevention and control, such as:
- Organisational infection prevention and control guidelines
- Personal protective equipment
- Hand hygiene facilities and equipment
- Medical/client care equipment relevant to the workplace
- Clinical and other waste disposal equipment
- Areas for cleaning
- Equipment for cleaning, including sterilised sharps, if relevant to role.
To complete your course, you will need ongoing access to the following:
- Computer/laptop with relevant software such as, but not limited to, the following:
- Internet access preferably through Google Chrome
- MS Word and PowerPoint
- Adobe Acrobat Reader
- Zoom video conferencing software
- Webcam and headset with microphone
- Resources for infection prevention and control, such as:
- Personal protective equipment, including disposable gloves, face mask, eye protection, and gown
- Hand hygiene facilities and equipment
- Area for cleaning
- Equipment and materials for cleaning, including disposable cloth, disinfectant/diluted bleach solution
- Safe and suitable venue for various role-play activities
- At least two (2) volunteers for various role-play activities
Provide first aid (HLTAID011):
Separately, learners are required to complete the First aid unit (HLTAID011) prior to commencing vocational placement. Melvic College Australia facilitates its own workshop for this course. Leaners may attend the workshop at any point during the course as long as it is before they go on vocational placement. They will receive a separate Statement of Attainment for this unit of competency upon successful completion of the training course.
Mandatory Vocational Placement:
Learners are required to undertake a minimum of 120 hours of vocational placement within a registered and approved aged care centre. This must occur after the student has satisfactorily completed all the other units/subjects in this qualification.
During this time, the learners are required to complete a skills workbook.
Learners have the option to:
- have their Vocational Placement under one of Melvic College Australia’s partner organisations:
- James Terrace Aged Care
- Location: 294-296 Warrigal Rd Cheltenham VIC 3192
- Can accommodate eight (8) students per week; total of 208 students per year
- McKenzie Aged Care Group
- Location: 1 Innisfallen Ave, Templestowe VIC 3106
- Can accommodate 40 students per week; total of 300 students per year
- source their own Vocational Placement providers (Melvic College Australia to check suitability); or
- have Melvic College Australia assist them in arranging Vocational Placement providers near their area.
For learners who plan to source their own Vocational Placement provider, Melvic College Australia will provide a Vocational Placement Pack that outlines all the requirements for finding a suitable provider that will facilitate the required workplace assessments and allow the learner to complete the required vocational placement hours. Learners are recommended to initiate contact with potential Vocational Placement providers as soon as enrolment is confirmed to allow sufficient time for Melvic College Australia to confirm the workplace’s safety and suitability.
